London, 30th July 2025. Fossil Free London protested outside the Shell Headquarters. They aim to call out Shell, which is driving the climate crisis to protect its massive profits.
While communities around the globe suffer from devastating extreme weather, Shell continues to expand its extraction of oil and gas, fully aware of the damage it’s causing.
Even Shell’s internal findings admit that new fossil fuel projects are incompatible with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Still, the company is pouring billions into expanding oil and gas operations, while allocating a mere 1.5% of its spending to renewable sources like solar and wind.
In 2023, as fuel prices surged and millions struggled with unaffordable energy bills, Shell reported record-breaking profits. Its executives walked away with pay packages worth millions.
Shell also has a troubling history of human rights abuses, most notably in Nigeria, where it has been implicated in serious allegations, including possible complicity in the killing of activists and the environmental destruction of the Niger Delta.
Documents leaked to the public reveal that Shell has known about the dangers of climate change since the 1980s and deliberately kept that information quiet. Today, it invests more in PR and image management than in genuine clean energy solutions.
